WILD GOOSE FARM

Storm Damages the Pine Grove at the Farm- April 15, 2019

Many of you have contacted us in response to the damage the farm incurred in Monday’s storm.  Today’s Daily Item has some coverage of the extent of the damage.  Fortunately, no one was injured and the farmhouse, barn and out buildings were spared. If you would like help out with storm recovery, lend equipment, or contribute funds for equipment rental, please contact us. To contribute funds, click the link here.

The loss of this pine grove is enormous – it simply can’t be replaced in our lifetimes.  We intend, however, to use it as an opportunity, as always, to demonstrate regenerative practices for building soil health, sequestering carbon and creating beautiful and productive natural landscapes for outdoor learning and play.  To do this well we need to quickly remove the fallen trees and replant with native, fruit and nut bearing trees and shrubs while addressing invasive plants without chemicals.  It feels like a tall order.  We hope you will consider taking part in some way.

We will send our 2019 member letter and schedule out very soon.  It was ready to out on Monday but we needed to reassess the timing of some of the events in light of this unexpected challenge. Please look for the letter in the next week or so.

We are looking forward to connecting with you soon.

Love, Kathy, Rudy, Emma and Dave

Update:  April 23, 2019

Dear Friends,

We will be working on storm clean up this Sunday, April 28th from 1-4pm. We will be removing debris from the mown grass areas, so that the Wild + Free group will have somewhere to play.

See you soon!

Love,

Dave, Kathy, Rudy, and Emma

Update: April 28th, 2019

We are still on for a work day today, Sunday April 28th from 1-4pm, despite the forecast for some rain.  Wear rain gear, tall socks and sturdy shoes as the paths may be a bit slippery. Our plan for today is to get the branches and sticks off the grass so that we are able to get a mower in before the grass grows too tall.

Hope you can still make it. Come for whatever amount of time you have.  Pre-work party hotdog roast from noon-1 for those who want to come early and eat.
